Scuba
Sports Dive Shop in Branson Missouri had another great turn out for
their 4th annual Underwater
and Beach Cleanup. There were over 220 divers participating with 18 boats being
deployed along with 3 ducks (amphibious vehicles).
All participants received free boat transportation, air fills, PADI
AWARE T-shirt, beer and BBQ pork was served Friday Night, water and soft
drinks served Saturday and Sunday. Free Hamburgers, hotdogs and BBQ Pork
was served for lunch on Saturday and Sunday to participants and a prime
rib and chicken buffet was served at the banquet Saturday night for
$15.00 per person.
There were many prizes given out at Saturday nights banquet including a
spear gun, split fins, dive mask, T-shirts, gift certificates and lots
of other prizes with everyone receiving something. Along with the prizes
a full set of Sherwood dive gear was raffled off at $10.00 per ticket.
Rocklane Resort offered divers hotel accommodations Friday and Saturday
night for a great price of $99.00. Rocklane Resort has water view
rooms, Boat ramp, 2 pools, Tennis Courts, Shuffle Board, Picnic area,
Cable TV, restaurant, has Table Rock Marina and Scuba Sports Dive Shop
at resort location.
Scuba Sports had a nice area set up with large trees next to the water.
Everyone gathered in this area Friday night eating the pork that was
freshly cut and mingled, discussing diving and other issues. As the
night went on, the full moon came out sending glimmers of light across
the water as everyone congregated around the large warm campfire next to
the waters edge.
Saturday
morning divers awoke to a thick fog rising from the lake. The fog
started to lift several times and quickly returned until
finally dissipating around 10am, but there did not seem to be any discouraged divers. Boat
after boat of anxious divers disappeared into the white thick fog. While
on the boat it was difficult to see land and most of the time it was
impossible with the thick fog surrounding the boat on calm waters
presenting an almost tranquil and relaxed environment. The fog lifted
and revealed a brilliant blue sky with a nice temperature in the 80's
all day Saturday.
There did not seem to be as much trash this year as in previous years, giving the
impression that this event and the divers attending have made a real
improvement in the lakes environment and have clearly made a
difference.
Overall the weekend went well, considering that two compressors blew out
during the course of the weekend, delaying some air fills. The first one
blew out Saturday morning on the dock of Table Rock Marina / Scuba
Sports, the second one belonged to the fire department and blew out
early
Saturday afternoon on moon shine beach. This was an unfortunate thing to
happen to the Scuba Sports and Table Rock PADI AWARE Staff who worked so
hard all year long setting this event up. They should be commended on
the fact that they found solutions to these problems quickly. Tom's Dive
Center set up a compressor on the shore in front of Rocklane Resort and
filled tanks all day and was a blessing at this years event.
Scuba Adventurer would like to thank Scuba Sports and the staff that has
worked so hard year after year to make this an enjoyable event.
Be ready for next years posting of Table Rock Lake PADI AWARE weekend
put on by Scuba Sports. This is a great event to participate in while
making a difference in the environment.
